Dear Mom and Dad,

College was great. It’s prepared me for a successful life. However, in no way does a degree (or an advertising major) prepare me to get a job in an advertising agency as a copywriter or art director. Advertising agencies just want to see my portfolio.

That’s why spending a year putting together my book at ad school so it’s an accurate reflection of my true ability is worth it. And it’s what I really want to do.

Plus, I promise I’ll work my ass off. Not like college. (Oops.)
